The reaction to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been disappointing

The trailer for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man dropped over the holidays! Cause for celebration!

What’s not cause for celebration is the racist reaction to Harry and Norman’s new designs. Both are now Black, and played by Black actors, and this is apparently too “woke” for some people. (Jesus christ almighty do I hate that word.) Well, unfortunately for those people, Spider-Man has always been what you’d call “woke” and long may that continue.

Harry is especially getting hate for his androgynous look and that has me despairing at the anti-LGBT sentiment of it all. Not for one second do I think Disney will actually make him LGBT, but seeing people spit hatred at a character who looks ever so slightly gender-neutral concerns me greatly about how they treat LGBT people in real life.

I’m looking very forward to seeing this new Harry and Norman, and getting to know them as the show goes into season two. (Season two has already been announced, so I guess Disney has faith that the show is good.)

Bigotry will at no point be tolerated on this blog.

  1. Personally I really liked the trailer and I’ve seen people who liked it too, but yep, unfortunetly there are a lot of complains about the characters like there’re so many black people in there or Peter acts more like Miles Morales than himself…

    And about Harry I love he appears on the op making tribute to the famous Amazing fantasy cover ❤️ And speaking of the op I’ve seen there mix reactions of it. Someones likes it, someones not cuz don’t like the hip-hop tone.

    Oh, it’s ridiculous the thing supposesdly trans/lgbt about Harry, cuz many people thought it was a lesbian woman at first.

  3. really? The osbornes have never been black. Ever. And harry has never been a black trans. And even Peter is dark. You can’t tell me this is so obviously done. If you want a feminine character why take a straight character and make him complete paw ducky? Why?

  4. I dont really care for spiderman but others have litterally grown up with these charcters form child too adult. Disney almost owes these people too stick too basic desighns and charcter traits that suits these audienes if that is the audience they wish too atract. For me personally it was the butchering of the lord of the rings lore by amazon. If one wants too change a character so drastically, why not make a new character for new generations too grow attatched too without spoiling the old.

  7. Race and gender-swapping characters is racist and sexist and very lazy. There are already great female and black comic book characters. No need to change characters that have been around for decades. Make your own original character instead of bastardizing characters that have been around for forever. It’s pure DEI, Woke ass bullshit

  8. I think I lost a few brain cells reading this comment section. So what if Harry is androgynous or something? if you’re complaining about it, personally, I think I says more about you than it does the show. Call me “woke” or “leftist” or “DEI” all you want. Sticks and stones. Not to mention, the show is set in Queens, a city with a 17.39% black population. I stand with OP on this one.

    PS. Norman and Harry have had waves since the 60’s. Waves are a very popular haircut in the black community (Thanks to my girlfriend for teaching my white ass these things lol). It was only a matter of time until they would be portrayed as black people. And even then, it’s not the mainline MCU! it’s an alternate universe!

  9. Why does it matter??? Seriously. He is a white character. Imagine taking a black character and making him white. How about a white Blade or Shaft. What if they made Black Panther White. He has a black suit so why not? Changing the characters ethnic back ground is racist towards white people. Harry Osborn is a straight white male. That is the background of the character. Stan Lee would never approve. No one would care if he was black or whatever race or sexual preference from the beginning. Changing something like that is cultural appropriation and considered racist. It still is if done to “white people”. This is all stupid. Even putting people of color in shows taking place in old Denmark and Sweden. The time of the Vikings. How about we make a show about North African tribes and make some of them white. Oh but we can’t do that. I like all cultures history and the uniqueness of them all. Changing white characters to suit some woke agenda is bullshit.

  10. If you want to see a truly entertaining Spider-man cartoon series, watch The Spectacular Spider-Man. It was fun and well written. Seven episodes in, I can honestly say that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is the worst adaptation of Spider-man.

    I have no problem including characters of colour or LGBTQIA+ characters. Be creative; write them in as a new characters. Give them their own storylines. Don’t touch the existing characters.

    I gave it a chance, but it’s time to abandon this poor excuse of a Marvel Comics based cartoon. Stan Lee is rolling over in his grave.
