Harry Osborn in Ultimate Spider-Man #7

Let’s take a look at Ultimate Spider-Man #7! Lots of Harry in this one and great cover art:

I wonder if the lines running down from Harry’s eye are supposed to evoke tears? It really looks that way.

One page in and we’re already at the Norman Osborn Verbal Abuse Show. Jeez! Otto cuts in with, “Come on Harry, you know that’s not true… mostly.” Yet this version of Harry clearly does have a work ethic, reliability and intelligence!

Harry looks decidedly jealous when Otto points out Peter’s suit is better than his.

OH the amount of MEMES I have seen over that “just let him cook” line. Very Gen Z, I guess?

Harry agrees to not shut down Peter’s suit again – who’s with me on thinking that won’t be the case? – and Otto brings up the fact that both suits should have AI. (Ugh, AI. I will accept it in a comic book story and few other places.)

Peter chooses for his AI to be based on himself. Harry has… other ideas.

Oh so THAT’S how they’re bringing Norman back into Harry’s story…

Harry that is a terrible idea. You were just talking about how he used to berate you. Why would you do that to yourself.

It’s an interesting adaption of Harry’s story in 616, when he would hear Norman’s voice in his head because of mental illness, but I’m not sure if this will pack the same punch. We haven’t really learned enough about the Harry-Norman relationship to fully understand why Harry wants such a cold and unpleasant person speaking to him from beyond the grave. (He could’ve picked his mother instead!)

After a cutaway to Gwen, MJ, Jonah, Ben and Robbie (Hooray! Robbie!) Peter and Harry test out their suits with a hero-on-hero fight.

So… we’re DEFINITELY going to see an ironic echo of this later on, aren’t we?

And this! Oh, my heart.

Here’s the Norman AI! (In green, of course.) Yeah this isn’t gonna end well. Why, Harry, why.

Peter is right! Harry does have daddy issues, and Norman DEFINITELY gave bad presents.

What a good shot! Oh wait, I bet THIS is the one that will be echoed later on when the inevitable happens and Harry turns. Unless, hey, maybe he doesn’t! Anything can happen in this ‘verse…

…oh no, wait, that “gotcha” just about clinches it. Never mind.

“Soft, soft, soft,” says Norman. Harry being “soft” or “weak” was always a big thing with him, wasn’t it?

(From Spectacular Spider-Man #183)

“You’re embarrassing me,” says Norman. That reminds me of of the Spider-Man 3 scene where Peter tells Harry, “You were an embarrassment to [Norman].” Ouch.

On hearing this new insult, Harry chest-lasers Peter into a wall, and as he recovers Peter very correctly surmises that Harry needs therapy. Wonder if Dr Kafka exists in this universe?

Harry apologizes and seems back to his old friendly self, but then… Tony Stark appears! He has just one question for Peter Parker: “Are you a hero yet?”

Annnnnd we’ll get the answer to that, and many more questions, later!

  1. It was an incredible fight! Yea, choosing Norman AI is the worst he could do. We all know where is gonna end this 😭 But for other part we don’t know the relationship father/son of this universe. Maybe it wasn’t that bad(?)
