Harry Osborn in Ultimate Spider-Man #6

Let’s skip universes for a second and see what Harry Osborn is up to in the Ultimate Spider-Man verse! He’s still going up against the Maker’s Council and still teamed up with Spider-Man. And there are very much some shades of grey about him.

The main plot point of USM #6 is MJ learning of Peter’s secret identity. But Harry’s very much there for the big action scene and here it is:

This Harry is very pro necessary evils. You may recall from #5 that he tortured the supervillain Bullseye. How far is he willing to go in pursuit of his goals?

Peter brings up the fact that the media calls Harry “Green Goblin” and Harry decides to adopt it as his codename.

When the pair confront Kingpin, he seems nonplussed that Harry tortured one of his guys for information. Peter doesn’t seem overly concerned either, but on the other hand he’s very distracted.

It doesn’t take Spidey long to realize that Kingpin has lured them into a trap. The first blow is against Harry.

Peter is outraged on Harry’s behalf.

They’re not exactly best friends yet, like they were in 616, but they’re friends!

Harry returns the favour by saving Peter from Kingpin.

Kingpin proves to be a huge challenge for Harry. Before long he has him utterly at his mercy. (Don’t you just love panels where the superhero’s mask breaks and reveals their eye?)

But Harry is not alone! As in virtually all universes, Peter is there to save him.

Kingpin absolutely goes to town on Peter, but luckily Harry is able to call on his glider and save them both.

Harry and Peter have definitely lost the battle and Kingpin has won… for now. And when Peter’s family notice his wounds and bruises, the truth comes out about Peter being a superhero. But MJ isn’t mad… she’s proud. She even gives Peter his codename.

Yeah I know this last page obviously has no Harry but isn’t it great? Such a nice balm for the constant bullcrap that happens in the 616 comics with Peter and MJ these days.
