Harry Osborn in Amazing Spider-Man: Torn #2-3

Spider-Man: Torn is a comic set during Peter Parker’s college years, so Harry is there! Here he is in part one. He’s not involved in the action, though, which sees Peter go up against a mysterious woman name Evangeline who’s just transformed into a monster thanks to a magic book, and also has murdered two people in pursuit of it.

Peter attempts to crack the mysteries of the book, but he also takes time out to attend the memorial of the two murdered people. Harry, Gwen and MJ accompany him.

Note Harry’s hand on Gwen’s shoulder!

But it’s Peter and MJ who are the star couple here… in so much as Marvel will ever let them be, of course. Evangeline attacks Peter when he’s with MJ, looking for the magic (and very very evil) book. MJ gets some good hits in!

I love it when MJ gets to hit people.

This all brings us to Torn #3, where we get a look at the Harry/Gwen relationship. After Peter’s beating at the hands of Evangeline (who refuses to pick a supervillain name) Peter returns home and finds Harry.

There’s something on Harry’s mind apart from Gwen, though – Norman. Unbeknownst to Harry, Norman has already been the Green Goblin at this point and lost his memory.

We know exactly what Norman’s working on! Goblin stuff! And Harry has his suspicions too.

Harry and Norman are now fighting… And knowing what we know about Norman, we can probably imagine the sort of things that were said.

And now we get to the sex-talk part of the Harry-Peter-Gwen-MJ love quadrangle.

A question often raised by fans of the Coffee Bean gang. Who was actually doing it, and when? (And why?)

Harry and Gwen haven’t had sex because Peter keeps getting in the way. (Parksborn shippers love this panel.)

Harry isn’t nearly as angry about the situation as he looked to be at first. His relationship with Gwen is in a strange place.

Parksborn shippers love these panels too!

Harry’s not giving up on Gwen yet. Hey, it sure is interesting that Liz Allan is another strong-willed blonde, isn’t it?

I’m as big a Peter/MJ shipper as anyone but the continuity is all off here. Peter didn’t love MJ until after Gwen died. And to say otherwise really takes away from the power of that one famous moment in The Night Gwen Stacy Died, where Peter insults MJ in his grief and she chooses to stay anyway.

Peter and MJ haven’t had sex either. Is anyone having sex around here?! And thus the conversation ends as awkwardly as it began.

And that’s it for Harry’s appearances in Torn so far. But I’m enjoying it and I hope you are too!
